These Prescription Drugs Can Be Replaced With Marijuana

Did you know Cannabis was a very popular medicine in the 1800s before prohibition laws banned it in the 1930s? In fact, Cannabis-based medicines were the number-one most used medicine in North America up until 1863, when Morphine became number one. Cannabis medicines remained number two until 1901 when Aspirin became mainstream and took the number two spot. Cannabis was regarded as a prime medicine for more than 100 different illnesses or diseases in North America.
During this time, alcohol use was equated with violence; and addiction to morphine was known as the “soldiers’ illness.” So, during that era, cannabis gained favor and was even recommended as a way of helping alcoholics and addicts recover. Then when Marijuana was banned in the 1930s, so were all the subsequent cannabis and hemp medicines. The following decades saw marijuana demonized and all the cannabis medicines were outlawed and replaced with patentable pharmaceutical drugs.
Today in 2018, Cannabis is seeing a resurgence in use to treat illnesses that other pharmaceutical drugs can’t treat as effectively or without negative side-effects to the patient. A quick search on the internet leads you to a number of extraordinary claims from medical cannabis users that had amazing results in treating their ailments; including stress, eating disorders, bodily pain and even curing some forms of cancer!
Patients suffering from a variety of chronic pains are often drawn to more natural substitutes like cannabis when they experience the side effects of medical prescriptions. Cannabis has proven its effectiveness time and also helps the patients improve their particular lifestyle as it reduces any existing side effects of medicines and helps the body heal from the core.
Let us take a look at a few prescription drugs that can be replaced by natural treatment of cannabis:
Painkillers: Painkillers such as Vicodin can be replaced easily with marijuana and it has proven to be an effective substitute for the painkiller in the long run. Vicodin has several side effects, some of which can be fatal.
Stimulants: Several stimulants such as Adderall are being used to treat anxiety in both children and adults, however these prescription drugs have high rates of addiction and dependency. Sativa strains of cannabis in particular are the best substitute for the stimulant medications. Sativas are effective in the treatment of disorders like ADD and ADHD and can be used for treating them without any side effects.
For Anxiety: For people with anxiety, pharmaceutical drugs such as Xanax are effective, however they can greatly damage the human brain if taken for long periods of time. Finding the right cannabis strain is the key to treating anxiety; as not all strains work well with anxiety patients. Typically, the Indica variety of cannabis is considered better to treat and reduce anxiety.
Treating Depression: While Zoloft might be a popular treatment for depression, a large number of patients using medical marijuana have reported to experience better results with the ganja plant as compared to the aforementioned drug. While marijuana products can be slower in showing results, they are not lethal and don’t cause any serious side effects like the medical counterpart.
Sleep Disorders: Sleeping disorders are common in today’s society and there are many prescription drugs available. For those who are looking for a natural medicine without side effects, medical marijuana (especially indica dominant strains) has been found to be an effective way of treating insomnia as compared to drugs like Ambien.
